Summer Contest Voting (Take Three)

Post by *Lady Lucia* »

Hey, everyone --

I hate to do this, but I'm going to have to reset the poll again.

I've hosted contests and survey-style votes several times on here over the past few years, and I'm pretty familiar with how things tend to look quantity-wise early on. This time around, I have reason to believe that one story is receiving an unfair advantage. It's being pushed way too high way too quickly, and the sheer number of early votes is a little crazy as well compared to prior contests. Unless I'm mistaken, this site hasn't spiked that much in traffic recently -- Viredae, you're the only one who can confirm or deny that.

No, I won't share what story it is. I have no definitive proof, and I also don't know whether it's the writer or just someone trying to screw with the results for some reason. Instead, we're just going to move on.

This isn't my favorite thing, as it excludes those without accounts, but I'm going to use the poll system on here. Sorry to those of you who are unregistered, but this is the most fair way I can do things. Yeah, there are still ways to cheat, but at least this method will be more of a pain to do so.

Like before, everyone has one week to get their votes in!

Much love,
Lady Lucia

I’ve actually had that happen where polls get vote bombed. It’s not always an onsite thing either, sometimes it’s literally just some random bot that gets a hold of the link and just votes one choice to hell. It can happen to any public poll or any poll that you can link to. It’s rare, but it happens.

That's always a potential risk of using polls without account verification. It's far too easy to cheat, child's play even. It becomes American Idol style right away: vote early, vote often. This is better.

Hopefully this one works out. I'm not going to be back to check on this site for several days because of an event, so I'm afraid of returning to see Poll version 6.0.

I'm gonna laugh if this ends up in a tie.

Well the tie for first was broken at last, and Lady Lucia has now succeeded in winning her own contest. That deserves like a Royce Gracie award or something for the badassery of it (UFC 1 reference). Congrats! This turned out to be a very fun contest overall with the multiple different layers to it and produced many good stories that I enjoyed.

I was actually quite proud of my own entry into this despite it being VERY rushed and almost completely written in a single night. The idea for the infinite-escalation war was just too much fun to let pass. Also I did kinda owe my long-time fans a girls vs boys strip war story after cancelling the Playville series before the strip war saga came.

I also found it interesting that both of SDS's prompts were the ones fighting for first place. Apparently Da Sniper makes good story prompts. We ended up doing each other's prompts this event, with both of us choosing to twist the original prompt to our own wicked visions. Perhaps in the future SDS will host a contest of his own with several prompts to choose from.
