Mom takes this large Mason jar out of her travel bag, hands it back to me (my sister was in the seat next to me) and just says, "Use this, Nick."
Orange juice is the worst. I've found -- and from your description you have too -- there's something about it that provokes a sense of urgency with even a nearly empty bladder.

And I was in my 40s before I felt comfortable peeing into a cup/jar/bottle in the car and that was only because of being stuck in traffic on a bridge due to an accident and having literally no where else to go.

If you were in a Suburban, Tahoe, or similar, yes you would have been up higher but that means the people in cars shouldn't have been able to see you -- unless you were standing in which case why were you standing? But if you were (mostly) sitting you should have only had to worry about the truckers.

Might have been a Suburban but Dad traded cars every 2-3 years back then so it's hard to recall which vehicle we had for the Alabama trip. I definitely remained sitting so yeah, I had the logic backwards on that. Of course, when we arrived my sister just had to tell all the relatives what I had done in the car on the way.

I actually have a "Travelers Friend" (small male urinal) that I ordered online. It's stashed under the front seat of my car in case of an unforeseen traffic jam (or too much coffee which we get free at work). Either orange juice or coffee is a trigger for me but some days I just need the caffeine.
