How do we know if those are actually true? Maybe it doesn't matter. Seems to be impossible to verify. Some might be true in its core, but greatly exaggerated and embellished. The unbelievable ones still may happen, right? I wanna hope.
I mean, most of stories websites, forums on internet are like that, you can never know.

The only way to know for sure would be if you had been there to witness the actual event. And even then everyone would have their own interpretation of what they'd seen and have different feelings about it. Memories can change over time.

What is considered acceptable varies by culture and changes over time too, so things that would never happen today happened all the time 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago. And from my experience, every family has some behavior quirk that's unique and weird which leads to some things that would seem strange to outsiders (like any other "inside" joke or reference).

All I can say is, my "true stories" posts are to the best of my recollection with as few embellishments as possible. I may slightly adjust or omit a minor detail to protect the privacy of others but the events are as I remember them.

I concur. A lot of my true stories may seem impossible for someone in the US, but someone in Europe for example, would see it as improbable, while someone in Asia would see it as normal.

I haven't posted any stories here in the true stories section yet. But I'll admit I've posted "true" stories other places that are only partially true or just inspired by a true event. I don't know what the policy is here. I would think that since there are designated places for fiction stories here, that the community prefers the stories in the true stories section to actually be true. I'd be curious about that.

For True stories that would be "hard to believe", it helps if there is something to corroborate the facts.
Obviously we don't need real names, but if this happened long ago it should be okay to name the location and year the event took place.

I do understand that some writers might not want to give away how old they are by saying how long ago they experienced an embarrassing
moment in junior high.

Of course they’re true. You can’t just put stuff on the internet that’s not true.
