What age did you stop being bathed by caregivers?

Post by Underdoggy »

I wonder what age most people stopped getting bathed by their parents or caregivers? Are you male or female? Did you get bathed alone or together with other siblings or the same or opposite gender? Was there a large age difference between siblings, or perhaps an older sibling helped to bathe you? Or the occasional baby sitter? Parent of the same or other gender? And at what age did it start feeling weird or embarrassing and did you ask to bathe alone yourself or your parents decide when for you? How about in public, as in say in public swimming pool shower and change rooms or communal baths as they have in some cultures? I know some countries such as Japan where it is normal for children to bath with parents till they are quite old, so I was curious what the averages would be elsewhere

Of course, as you get older, infirmities can cause you once more having to rely on caregivers. An accident last year means I have caregivers coming in twice a week to help me wash.

Age 8 for me when I mostly started taking showers instead of baths.

Although once in a while my mother would enter the bathroom and wash my hair, especially when she thought it was getting too long. Probably age 10 was the last time she came in and shampooed my hair while I was obviously naked. By then I felt some mild embarrassment even though I had not even begun to start puberty at that age.

As far as washing me probably somewhere around 7 but I was supervised till 12. Not necessarily her standing there watching but she would check in and remind me to wash.

My mother quit bathing me when I was 6. During a two-week trip to visit relatives when I was 9, I was bathed by an aunt and by my sister.

When I was 10-1/2, we moved to a very rural town. It was so far from civilization that an antenna on a tall tower was needed to pick up a television signal, and cable TV wasn't available. What was available, though, was the Atari 2600 video game console. The guys who had one were very popular, and getting invited over to play was a big deal. An even bigger deal was getting invited to a sleepover to play video games all night. Most families lived in old farm houses with one bathroom, a claw-foot tub, and a well. In order to conserve the well water, the mother of the house would pile as many of us in the tub at a time as would fit. She'd let us soak for awhile and then come back in and wash us. I was very modest, so it was very embarrassing. I had to decide whether to preserve my modesty or play "Atari," and I decided on the Atari.

I really didn't like it while it was happening, but it gave me very fond memories. I wish that it had happened more!

I agree, they stopped bathing me when I was 10, and my mother's supervision lasted until I was about 12, but I didn't mind either of my parents seeing me naked. At least not until the last time my father saw me naked when I was 15. My mother saw me a couple of years later.

What got me interested in this topic was the reply from another thread about a German movie. In the video, the girl who is already pubescent is being bathed by her father in a tub. She is said to be 12, but the actress could have been older as the commenter states. In the short scene, you can see her development present. The film is in set in a historical time period, so I am interested to know how common this was back in the day, this situation where a father bathes their teenaged daughter. I wouldn't think that would be common if it happened at all these days, although I have read that it is quite common in Japanese culture, but of course not in all families.

Most of the replies so far seem to indicate that it is common for boys to be bathed by females until much older, so I'm interested to know how common it is for girls to be bathed by males for an older age. I assume if girls put in a similar situation like in the film, it would generate feelings of embarrassment as they grew older and their bodies started changing. Does it feel a lot creepier when the role is reversed? The clip gave me an idea of writing about a similar scenario and prompted me to make this poll. Anybody care to share details of the female experience?

FYI I (male) was bathed by my mother till about 5 years old, then it switched to my father until I was about 10 years old.

18:30 in the video

12 year old Clara Schumann, played by Anja Christine Preussler, stands naked in a tub while her father thoroughly and attentively rubs soap on her newly developing body. In his right hand is a sponge which seems to be doing most of the washing, but in his left hand is nothing and you can clearly see his left hand slide across her breast bud before he tells her to sit down. Brief full frontal nudity. He then puts down the sponge and begins to rinse her naked body with his bare hands.

I have always been very disturbed by this very brief scene. I believe it is meant to depict the domineering relationship Clara’s father had over her. It is part of a montage of four scenes lasting about 5 seconds each. First, Clara is sitting on her father’s lap while the two are riding in a carriage. Then, the bath scene. Next, he holds her in his arms in bed and pecks her lips good night before blowing out a candle. Finally, Clara moves and stands still on his silent command while he does her hair.

What disturbs me the most is the actress Anja Christine Preussler, who looks age 13-14 but possibly 12 herself, had to take off all of her clothes and stand in a bathtub while a man put his soapy hands on her, taking the liberty to cop a quick feel of her budding breast. It’s bad enough if this happened to Clara Schumann. They filmed it happening to a girl who had to submit to being bathed by a man not even related to her. It makes me wonder how her parents ever agreed to this, and if the girl knew she would have to do this before agreeing to take the role. I looked up the actress and there’s very little information about her, and this was her only role in film ever. I would venture to guess the experience was traumatizing.

Something interesting I've seen about this is, more often than not it is the mother who objects to the daughter getting bathed by her dad beyond a certain age, not the daughter herself.

Contrastingly, I've seen single dads who try to give their daughters as much space and modesty as possible, and often the daughters just don't care for all that modesty for far longer in age than you'd think.

Which makes me wonder if the reason boys are bathed for longer by their moms is simply that dads don't see a reason object to it, and the boys take a while to get modest about it, whereas mothers basically shove the modesty onto girls as soon as the concept is understandable to them.

Naturally there are exceptions always, but these are just my observations
