When I was in the fifth grade - so around 11 years old, we had a multiple night field trip where we stayed in some old dorms in what used to be a college. At that point I was still prepubescent, maybe staring it, but was definitely feeling more self conscious about my body. Part of staying in these old dorms meant we had to take showers in the old communal bathrooms. All of the boys were in one building and we all were to shower at pretty much the same time. I think they technically sent us in a couple waves, but it still meant you were in there with a group of something like 20-30 boys.
Now even though these were old facilities they still had some single person showers. I, being self conscious and small in just about every department, opted to use one of those single person showers. So what I did was wear my towel and flip flops from my room to the bathroom. When I got in there I saw that some boys were using the communal showers unbothered and others had their towels wrapped around them as I did, using the sinks to brush their teeth or what have you. When I saw that there was an open curtain I immediately headed to use that stall.
Some of the boys of course were being rowdy and as I headed to that shower I was taking peeks at my classmates. Only some of them had any body hair which was reassuring in my own development but of course my worst fear was confirmed: I definitely had a penis that was on the smaller side. So I quickly shuffled into the little tiled stall and pulled the curtain as best I could. The curtain was definitely a retrofit and didn’t exactly cover everything, but I figured if I got it completely closed on one side then I would be fine.
I got the water up to temperature and got in, taking my towel off behind the curtain and sticking my arm out to put it on the hook outside of the shower. As I was started to get my body wet under the shower head I could hear some boys yelling and just rough housing in general. I thought nothing of it and just tried to focus on getting showered quick. Unfortunately the boy who was being the loudest, was snapping people with his towel and just generally being a menace.
Then it happened - as I put shampoo into my hand, I heard him say, “who’s in here?” And the curtain to my shower was pulled fully open. He had the towel ready to go and tried to snap me with it. I was able to catch it and keep it from hitting my butt, but of course everyone saw my fully naked body, including my little circumcised penis with its head pointing forward. A bunch of boys laughed and some reacted to me trying to get the towel from him. He said something like “yep, small feet” which got a laugh. Eventually he gave up trying to hit me with the towel and we fought for control over the curtain. Eventually I was able to close it back, but man was I nervous for the rest of that shower. And I definitely moved as fast as I could to get the hell out of there. Needless to say, I was red in the face and could feel my ears burning with both embarrassment and anger.

It's always embarrassing being exposed to classmates like that. At my primary school (up to age 11) we had a weekly sports lesson at a local park with compulsory group showers afterwards, from about age 9 until we left, and we soon got used to that, but when we went to secondary school at 11 things felt different. There was only one other boy from my primary school in my class, and the rest of the boys I had only met earlier in that week, and some of them looked physically a lot bigger (with their clothes on, I mean). We were all rather hesitant after the first lesson, but I can clearly remember the teacher - Mr Wakefield - saying "come on, you've all got the same little bit hanging down" (what a choice of words!) so we reluctantly began to undress. We were careful not to be caught looking at the other boys, but of course we were all subtly checking each other out, and I can assure him that we definitely did not all have the same! To my relief I was neither the smallest nor the largest in that department, but my cheeks still burned and the blood still pounded in my head at the thought that they could all see my privates. Is it weird that I can still remember some of the details of the other boys? Jason was the smallest by a long way, and Lee the biggest - I was really quite surprised by how big he was! One of the boys tried to preserve some modesty by keeping his left hand cupped over his penis, but of course he needed two hands to get his pants off and back on, so he didn't manage to prevent us seeing him.

My experiences with gang showers consist of Boy Scout summer camp when I was 13 and post-run showers on the high school track team ages 16-18.

At camp we were marched down to the open showers in our Scout swimsuits after we had been there a few days by our Scoutmaster. At that age I had a sort of small penis with some pubic hair. We were all in the age 11-15 age range, so I did not feel too out of place. Plus, I could steal a few glances at the older boys. We had to strip off our swimsuits when we got there. It was a Friday afternoon, so I was more worried about a visiting Mom or sister happening by since the showers were out in the open next to the lake.

Track team was the same guys every school day showering together. There was some towel snapping and more ribald hijinks.

I lived in a college dormitory for one-year post-high school. Those showers were private stalls.

I have mixed feelings about setups like that. On the one hand, I appreciate someone decided it was worth making allowances for those who would choose not to shower communally. But on the other hand, as you know from experience, it's also a trap that attracts bullies.
