Cruelly Punished for Stepdad's Crimes (parts 1 & 2 - complete)

Part 1: School Bus
The town of Oakhaven didn't forgive, and it certainly didn't forget. My neighborhood felt like a minefield every time I stepped outside. People didn't just avoid Lucy and her mom; they looked through them as if they were ghosts haunting a crime scene. Lucy's stepdad had played the town like a fiddle, stealing life savings and retirement funds from the very people who had welcomed him with open arms. He was gone now, locked away, but the stain remained. It clung to Lucy like a scent that wouldn't wash off. Her mom, Heather, had received hate mail, and been shunned by neighbors. Lucy too had been ostracized at school.
I knew that neither Lucy nor Heather had been aware of what her stepdad was up to, and they certainly didn't have any of the money. I was the only one who didn't care about the money, anyway. I only cared about the way Lucy bit her lip when she was nervous and the way she laughed at my terrible jokes. We were two islands in a sea of ill will.
"Do you think it'll be bad today?" Lucy asked.
We stood at the edge of the curb, the morning air biting through our clothes. She clutched her bag to her chest, her knuckles white.
"It's just another Tuesday," I said, trying to sound more confident than I felt. "Just keep your head down. We'll get through it."
She looked at me, her brown eyes searching mine for a lie. She didn't find one.
"I hate this town, Ralph."
"I know. Me too."
The yellow school bus groaned as it pulled up to the stop, brakes shrieking. Usually, the boarding process was a chaotic scramble of teenagers fighting for the back seats. But as the doors folded open, the atmosphere shifted. The bus was already full. Every single student was on board.
We stepped up the stairs, and I immediately noticed the divide. The boys occupied every seat in the front half of the bus. The girls were clustered from the middle to the back. There was no mixing. No talking. Just a heavy, expectant silence that made the hair on my arms stand up.
As we started down the aisle every boy watched us, a few of the younger boys snickered as we passed. Further along, two boys from my year group - Jax and Miller - stepped out, blocking our path. They were built like refrigerators, their expressions blank and cold.
"Reserved," Jax said, pointing to an empty window seat.
I looked at Lucy, then back at Jax.
"Reserved for who?" I asked.
"For you, Ralph," Miller replied, a slow, predatory grin spreading across his face. "Move it."
I tried to sidestep them, but Jax put a heavy hand on my shoulder, shoving me toward the seat.
"Just sit down and shut up," Jax muttered.
He sat next to me, blocking my exit. I looked at Lucy. She looked terrified, her gaze darting between the boys and the rows of girls behind them.
"It's okay," I whispered. "I'll be right here."
Lucy hesitated, then began to walk down the central aisle. She was a bright spot in the grey interior of the bus. She loved yellow. Today, she wore a bright yellow cardigan over a light blue blouse, a dark blue short skirt, yellow tights, and yellow sneakers. She looked like a dandelion in a concrete parking lot. She had a small, black backpack containing her schoolwork slung over one shoulder.
As she passed the middle of the bus, the silence broke. Snickers erupted from the girls' side. I saw Chloe, a girl who had spent three years making Lucy's life a living hell, leaning over the aisle. She whispered something behind her hand to her friend, and they both burst into a fit of muffled laughter.
Lucy didn't look at them. She kept her eyes fixed forward, her pace quickening. I watched her over the back of my seat, my stomach twisting. She looked so small, so fragile, moving deeper into the territory of the people who hated her.
She eventually found an empty seat near the rear. I felt a surge of dread when I saw who was surrounding her. It was Chloe's inner circle - the girls who viewed social hierarchy as a blood sport. They didn't move to let her in; she had to squeeze past them, their shoulders brushing hers with intentional force.
The bus lurched forward, pulling away from the curb. For a few minutes, the only sound was the rumble of the engine and the occasional shout from the boys up front. Then, the noise from the back shifted.
The quiet laughter turned into excited squeals. High-pitched, mischievous shrieks echoed through the cabin. It sounded like a party, but there was an edge to it that felt like a threat.
"What's going on back there?" I asked Jax.
He didn't look at me. He just smirked and leaned back.
Suddenly, a sound pierced through the noise. A sharp, panicked cry.
"Help! Stop..."
It sounded like Lucy. The scream was cut short, replaced by a muffled, guttural sound.
I bolted upright, trying to peer over the seat.
"Let me see!" I yelled.
But I couldn't see anything. Many girls had stood up or knelt on their seats, creating a wall of bodies that blocked my view of the rear. They laughed, their voices overlapping in a cacophony of cruelty.
"Sit down, Ralph!" someone shouted.
"What are you doing to her?" I screamed, struggling to push past Jax.
Jax grabbed my collar and slammed me back into the vinyl seat.
"Stay put, little man," he sneered.
I sat there, chest heaving, listening to the muffled sounds of a struggle. I heard the rhythmic thumping of something hitting the floor, and the relentless, mocking laughter and excited squeals of the girls. I looked toward the front, wondering why the driver wasn't doing anything. The man just stared straight ahead, his eyes fixed on the road, his jaw set. I wondered if he had his own grievance with Lucy's stepdad, and through association, with her.
Then, something yellow entered my peripheral vision.
A yellow sneaker flew through the air, arching over the seats. Jax caught it with a laugh and tossed it to Miller.
"Look at this," Miller chuckled, holding the shoe up. "The fraud's daughter is losing her gear."
My heart plummeted. A second yellow sneaker followed, landing with a thud in the aisle. The boys began to toss them back and forth like a game of catch, their cheers growing louder.
Then came a larger piece of fabric. A bright yellow cardigan was flung over the heads of the girls, landing squarely in Jax's lap. He held it up, sniffing the fabric with a mock expression of disgust.
"Smells like desperation," Jax joked.
"Give it back!" I roared, lunging forward again.
Jax got up and stood in the central aisle. I tried to get past him, but his time, three boys grabbed me, pinning my arms to my sides. They laughed at my struggle, their faces twisted in amusement.
"You want her clothes, Ralph? You'll have to wait for the rest!" one said.
Two more items flew through the air in quick succession: a dark blue skirt and a light blue blouse. They fluttered down, landing in a heap on the floor of the aisle.
"She's stripped!" one of the boys yelled, holding up both items of clothing before tossing them forwards. "The little cheat is down to her underwear!"
"I can't wait to see," another added, his voice thick with anticipation. "I wonder if her underwear is yellow too."
The girls in the back were screaming now, a collective, manic sound of triumph. The boys were practically vibrating with excitement, leaning over their seats to try and catch a glimpse of the carnage happening in the rear.
"She's on the floor," Miller whispered, his eyes wide. "They've got her on the floor - I saw her in her bra!"
I stopped fighting. I went limp, my mind racing, a cold void opening up in my gut. I could picture it - Lucy, stripped of her defenses, trapped in the back of the bus while the people she feared most tore her dignity apart. I hoped against hope that they would stop there, that seeing her in her bra and tights would sate them.
Then, Lucy's yellow tights sailed through the air. The boys scrambled for them, gleefully pulling and stretching the fabric until they tore the legs completely apart from each other.
"She's down to her panties!" someone shouted.
The noise in the back reached a fever pitch. A series of high-pitched girlish shrieks erupted, followed by a roar of approval from the boys. A piece of white fabric flew over the crowd.
Lucy's bra.
The boys cheered, passing the white lace around from hand to hand, commenting on the size, the intimacy of the object. I felt sick. I felt like I was suffocating in the stale air of the bus.
Then, the final blow.
A small, white triangle of cotton sailed through the air, landing on the floor.
Lucy's panties.
The bus exploded into a frenzy. The boys howled, some of them standing on their seats, shouting obscenities and laughing. They passed the panties around, treating them like a trophy of war. Even the younger boys. One older boy sniffed its crotch.
"The fraud's daughter is naked!" Jax screamed, his face flushed. "She's completely naked!"
"How's it feel knowing we're all gonna see your sweetheart in her birthday suit, eh Ralph?" Miller taunted me.
Suddenly, a sharp voice cut through the chaos.
"Alright, enough! Girls, sit down and let the boys have a proper look!"
It was Chloe. She stood in the center of the aisle, her arms crossed, looking back at the girls with a commanding glare. The girls immediately obeyed, sliding back into their seats with synchronized precision, their faces still wearing smug, triumphant grins.
The path was clear.
The boys didn't wait. They surged backward, a wave of testosterone and cruelty, pushing past each other to reach the back. I fought my way through, shoving my way through the gaps, my eyes searching for Lucy.
Many other boys saw her first, from our own year group (and our class), as well as from years above and below ours. Then, through the crowd, I saw her.
She was pinned to the floor of the aisle. Four girls held her down with brutal efficiency. Two had her ankles locked in a vice grip, pulling her legs wide apart. Two others had her wrists pinned above her head, her arms stretched taut against the dirty ribbed flooring of the bus.
She was completely naked.
Her skin was a pale, shimmering white against the grime of the floor. She was sobbing, the sound a low, broken whimper because a piece of fabric had been shoved deep into her mouth, gagging her.
I'm ashamed to say I couldn't help but check out her private parts. Her chest heaved, her small breasts bouncing with every ragged breath, the nipples peaked and hard from the cold air and the terror. Her stomach fluttered, the muscles tight as she tried to writhe away from her captors. Because her legs were forced wide, everything was on display. Her mound had a very fine covering of dark pubic hair, which did nothing to obscure her lips, which were slightly parted.
The boys surrounded her, a circle of predators. They didn't touch her - not yet - but they did something worse.
They pulled out their phones.
A dozen smartphone cameras were pointed at Lucy's naked body. She closed her eyes, turning her head from side to side, a muffled scream vibrating in her throat. She looked small, broken, and utterly exposed.
"Look at those tits," one boy whispered, his voice dripping with lust.
"Check out the pussy," another added, zooming in with his camera. "She's actually hot."
I tried to reach her, but I could only see snatches of her through the gaps between the boys; the curve of her hip, the trembling of her thighs, the way her buttocks were pressed flat against the floor, exposed to the horny adolescents males.
"Get away from her!" I screamed, but my voice was drowned out by the laughter and jeers.
I saw a boy reach down, his finger grazing the inside of her thigh, dangerously close to the entrance of her vagina. I felt sure he would slip it inside her. Lucy flinched violently, a muffled shriek escaping the gag, her body arching off the floor in a desperate attempt to escape.
"She likes it!" the boy laughed, retreating as the girls tightened their grip on her wrists.
The humiliation was absolute. She wasn't just naked; she was a specimen, a piece of meat for the town's children to dissect and document. I could see the tears streaming down her temples, soaking into the floor.
The bus suddenly screeched to a halt.
"That's enough!" the driver roared, standing up and walking toward the back.
The girls immediately let go. They vanished back into their seats as if they had never moved. The boys scrambled back, though they lingered, their eyes still glued to the girl on the floor.
Lucy didn't move. She stayed pinned to the floor, her limbs splayed, shivering violently. She looked like a fallen bird, wings broken.
The driver looked down at her, his expression not one of pity, but of satisfaction, and he definitely enjoyed looking at her as he had a bulge in the front of his pants.
"Get up," he ordered. "And get your clothes back on. Now." She stayed where she was, but drew her legs up and wrapped her arms around her knees.
He looked at the boys.
"Give her clothes back. Now!"
The boys grumbled, tossing the outer garments back toward her. The yellow cardigan, the blue blouse, the blue skirt, and the sneakers landed in a heap around her.
I pushed through the crowd and dropped to my knees beside her. I ignored the sneers of the other students. I reached out and gently pulled the gag from her mouth.
Lucy let out a choked, racking sob, collapsing against my chest. I wrapped my arms around her, trying to shield her nakedness from the staring eyes, but it was too late. Everyone had seen. Everyone had the photos.
"I've got you," I whispered, my voice shaking. "I've got you, Lucy."
She clung to me, her skin cold and clammy. She was shaking so hard I thought she might break.
After a few seconds she picked up her blouse and put it on, only fastening two middle buttons before reaching for her skirt. I could see the boys looking back along the aisle, or over the tops of their seats for another peek between her thighs.
"My... my underwear," she whimpered, her voice barely audible. "Ralph, where are my...?"
I looked around. The boys were sliding back to their seats, smirking. Jax had his hand in his pocket, a small piece of white lace peeking out from the seam. Miller was grinning, his pocket bulging.
They hadn't returned the underwear.
The driver sighed and sat back down.
"Back to your seats. All of you. We're already late."
The bus started moving again. Lucy huddled against me, wrapped in her yellow cardigan, her skirt haphazardly tied around her waist. She didn't look at anyone. She just stared at the floor, her eyes vacant, the light that usually lived in them extinguished.
The rest of the ride was silent, but it was a heavy, suffocating silence. The other students continued to whisper, their phones buzzing as they likely shared the images in a group chat. Every time a phone chimed, Lucy flinched, a fresh wave of tremors racking her body.
When we finally reached the school, the doors opened, and the students poured out. They didn't push her this time. They didn't need to. They simply stepped around Lucy as if she were a piece of trash on the sidewalk.
Once the other students had gone, Lucy put the three items of clothing that had been returned back on, as well as her sneakers. With her tights destroyed and her panties stolen, she was left with a short skirt with nothing underneath it. Her backpack had been kicked underneath her seat.
We left the bus, the driver nowhere to be seen, and I walked her to the bathroom. I waited outside the door until she had composed herself. When she finally emerged, she looked different. The bright yellow of her cardigan and sneakers now looked garish, a cruel joke played by the universe.
"I can't go in there," she whispered, nodding towards the classroom.
"You don't have to," I said.
"Everyone knows, Ralph. Everyone saw."
"Just ignore them."
She looked at me, and for the first time, I saw a flicker of something other than fear. It was a cold, hard resignation.
"They took them," she said. "My panties, my tights, my bra. They're keeping them."
"We'll get them back," I stated, not sure how we'd go about doing that, and her tights were destroyed.
"No," she said, her voice flat. "They don't want the clothes. They wanted the feeling. They have it now."
We spent the day in a blur of whispers and stolen glances. Lucy didn't speak a word in class. She sat at her desk, her shoulders hunched, her eyes fixed on a single point on the chalkboard.
Every time a group of girls giggled in the hallway, she shivered. She kept her cardigan wrapped tightly around her, and her legs closed tight.
The boys in class and in the hallways eyed her bare legs, knowing she was naked under her short skirt. Most of them had, or had seen, photos and videos of her nude anyway. Even my two best friends Nathan and Kenny showed me photos they'd been sent showing Lucy's tits and pussy.
At lunch, we sat under a willow tree at the far edge of the athletic field, far away from the cafeteria.
"My mom is going to find out," Lucy said, picking at a piece of bread.
"How?"
"The photos. Someone will send them to her. Or the principal."
"If they do, we'll tell them it was an assault," I said firmly.
Lucy let out a hollow laugh.
"Who is the principal going to believe? The daughter of the man who stole the town's money, or the 'good kids' of Oakhaven?"
I had no answer for that. The logic of the town was a closed loop, a circle of righteousness that left no room for the victims of the guilty.
"Besides, I don't want to put my mom through any more upset or worry."
As the final bell rang, we walked back to the bus. Lucy stopped at the bottom of the stairs, staring at the yellow vehicle.
"I can't go back on that bus," she whispered.
"We'll walk," I said.
"It's three miles."
"I don't care if it's thirty."
We walked home in silence, the summer sun still warm and bright. For a while, the world felt quiet, as if the cruelty of the morning had been bleached away by the daylight.
But as we turned the corner onto our street, I saw a group of six boys standing by the fence of Lucy's yard. Jax and Miller were among them, leaning against the rails.
As we approached, Jax reached into his pocket. He pulled out the white cotton panties and tied them to the fence post, leaving them there like a flag of surrender.
"Forgot these!" Jax yelled, his voice echoing through the quiet neighborhood. "Thought you might want them back, Fraudie!"
The other boys laughed. They all then walked away, laughing among themselves as they showed one another whatever was on their phone screens. I knew full well what they were sharing.
Lucy stopped. She looked at the small piece of white fabric fluttering in the breeze, pinned to the fence of her own home. She didn't cry this time. She didn't shiver.
She walked forward, grabbed the fabric, and ripped it in half. Then she ripped it again, and again, until the underwear was nothing more than a handful of white rags.
She dropped them into the gutter and looked at me.
"I'm not wearing yellow anymore," she said.
Her voice was cold, devoid of the softness I had known for years. It was a voice that had been forged in the back of a school bus, tempered by the laughter of predators.
"I don't care about the clothes, Lucy," I said.
"I know," she replied, turning toward her front door. "But I care about the next time they think I'm a victim."
I watched her walk into the house, her silhouette sharp against the light of the hallway. The girl who had boarded the bus that morning was gone, stripped away along with her clothes. In her place was something harder, something colder.
I stood there for a while, looking at the white scraps of fabric in the gutter. I thought about the photos, the laughter, and the way the driver had looked away. I thought about the town of Oakhaven and the way it loved to punish the innocent for the sins of the guilty.
I realized then that the bus ride hadn't been a prank. It had been an initiation. I dreaded what else was in store for poor Lucy and her mom.
