Interesting question. Looking back, I guess she must have seen it in one of her Mom's or Dad's books or shows. I know it made an impression on me later in my life, because I'm always using something like it in my stories.
At the time, though, I didn't think of it as a "technique." It was just one more creepy thing Linda did to me.

They didn't exactly mention it. The next couple times Linda saw me she kind of grinned at me, and stuck out her tongue and wiggled it from side to side. Then she'd laugh at me.
After awhile, she got tired of the joke and moved on to another victim, I think.
