The patient is administered a local anesthetic so he or she should not feel pain during the procedure. I've had several UTIs (Urinary Tract Infection) since my early teenage years and this has been suggested for me. Fortunately, thus far, antibiotics have successfully treated this in my case.

Correct, I jest felt a little pressure . A funny part is I had to give a clean catch urine specimen before I had a cysto and a really good looking red head gave me a cup and was telling me how to do it and could not even say the word "penis" and she worked in a urology office. Even funnier was she was the one who told me to remove everything from the waste down and lay one the table and drape myself with a drape. She came back in a short time later, worked at a table on the side of the room and filled a syringe with lidocaine and came over to me, removed the drape and took hold of my penis and squeezed the meatus and injectional (without the needle thankfully)the lidocaine into my penis, the same woman who could not say "penis" was now handling mine for a few moments.
