Glitch When Editing

Post by Blondie »

Hey everyone—I just wanted to give you a heads-up about a glitch I’ve run into a few times now. I went in to make a few minor revisions to one of my stories, and when I hit “Preview,” instead of showing the updated version, the edit page reloaded with the original text still in place. Fortunately, I had backed up my changes in a word processor and was able to copy and paste them back in. After that, the preview displayed properly and I was able to submit.

Also worth noting—the glitch only seems to occur when the human verification page pops up after clicking “Preview.”

So, bottom line: It is always worth backing up your work—especially given the recent issues with the site.

That's happened to me now too. Just typed in the last three quarters of a story I was about to post and lost the lot.

Again, it was after the human verification message popped up when I pressed save. Once cloudflare had verified me I was taken back to the original draft.

Lesson learned. Future posts to be done on sticky notes and pasted across.

For future reference, you may be able to immediately click the back button and go back to the page with your typed draft, but mileage may vary.

The safest option of course is to simply type it elsewhere and copy paste it.

Could that be a web browser glitch?

I still find it hard to believe some of you guys are typing your full stories on the web forum here.

MS Word works great and I'm sure there are other Text Editors that will allow people to do spell check and save their documents onto a memory stick.

Bingo! I just tested this out, and indeed the back button brought up the revised text.

FWIW in my case I did use a word processor. I copied and pasted the revised text into the edit box, hit "Preview," and the verification page popped up. After the verification process, the original text appeared, but the back button recovered the page with the revisions.

LibreOffice too. That's free and open source.

I had a similar problem while working on a new post. I left the edit screen open while I was doing something else. I apparently took too long and was asked to log back in. The post was lost and clicking back did not help. I'll be more careful in the future.
