Oh, I don't know . . . a Firefighter, I'm sure. Electrical linemen for power companies also wear flash-resistant flame retardant clothing. Many chemists, those who work with explosives, fireworks, solvents are also at risk. I can think of dozens of professions. I suppose, however, the answer you are looking for are people who think they are hot stuff.

 Yeah I can think of many jobs that would require flame retardant clothing but flame retardant underwear that must be a very specific job

To answer my own question :D Jobs That Commonly Require FR Underwear
1. Electrical & Utility Work (Arc Flash Risk)

Electricians, power line technicians, substation workers

Arc flash incidents can generate temperatures over 19,000°C.

FR base layers help reduce burn severity if the outer FR clothing is breached.

2. Oil & Gas Industry

Rig workers, refinery operators, pipeline technicians

High risk of flash fires and hydrocarbon explosions.

Many oil & gas companies require inherent FR base layers under coveralls.

3. Firefighters (Wildland & Industrial)

Worn under turnout or wildland gear.

Prevents synthetic underwear from melting and adds a thermal barrier.

4. Foundry, Steel, Metal & Welding Work

Foundry workers, welders, metal fabricators

Exposure to molten metal splash, sparks, slag.

FR underwear adds thermal protection if outer gear is compromised.

5. Chemical Processing Plants

Certain processes create flash fire risk.

FR underlayers often required as part of multi-layer PPE protocols.

6. Racing & Motorsports

Drivers, pit crews (FIA / SFI rules)

Fireproof underwear (Nomex or similar) is mandatory in many racing categories.

7. Military & Tactical Roles

Aircraft crews, vehicle crews, and personnel near fuel or fire hazards

FR base layers are standard to reduce burn injury risk.

Why FR Underwear Matters

Even if your outer layer is flame-resistant, ordinary underwear made of polyester or nylon will melt into the skin during a flash event. FR underwear:

Doesn’t melt

Self-extinguishes

Reduces burn depth

Improves overall PPE performance

Some workplaces require it as part of a full PPE system.

Say, does that mean any females require a flame-retardant bra as well? Do those even exist? :D

Perhaps workpace-mandated bralessness may be a thing after all
