When I was in college, I worked part-time at a local gym on the late shift. Usually, all the members would be gone by the last half hour or so and I would go take my shower. The manager and trainer, both women, thought nothing of walking into the men's locker room while I was there to either check on things or talk to me about something. One or both of them came in almost every night.

I was just a “gopher,” tasked with keeping the place tidy, making sure there were clean towels, etc. I worked the late shift until closing and there was a trainer, a man, and the manager, a woman named Tess. Most of the time the place was empty for at least the last half hour, so the trainer and I would shower and change so we could leave right at closing time. It was not unusual for Tess to come into the locker room and right up to the showers to talk to the trainer and/or me about something. Sometimes she was only there a minute, other times longer. The trainer and I acted as though nothing was unusual.

After a couple of months, the trainer left and they hired a new one, a woman named Fiona. It was maybe the second or third night Fiona was there, I was showering and Tess came into the locker room with Fiona in tow. Fiona looked rather surprised. I’m not sure if it was because she didn’t know I would be there, would be naked, or that Tess was so nonchalant about it. Tess asked me a couple of questions and got Fiona in on the conversation. I acted as though nothing was unusual - it was, after all, “normal” for Tess to walk in. Tess finished what she needed to talk about and they both left.

The next night, just as I was just getting in the shower, I heard Fiona call out to me. I called back and she asked something, but we couldn’t hear each other, so she slowly came in closer until she was standing at the showers. She shyly asked me a couple of questions as I showered and left. The same thing happened a couple nights later. From that point on, either Tess or Fiona, and once in a while both of them would come in to talk about something. Tess was always more business-like and would say what she needed and left. Fiona soon lost any shyness and would often hang around and chat for a few minutes.
