I am always surprised, how prominent Spanking is in Enf/Enm stories both here and asstr. As someone who never even heard of it in my culture/area. I always saw it in movies as a quick fun gag, never punishment. Is it actually a thing that happens, Especially with kids for disciplining?

In some of the male spanking stories that I've read, it's the potent combination of full or partial nudity in front of others present (often female family members) that gives interest to the reader. Then if the guy cries, that just adds to the embarrassment. In some of those stories, the victim even becomes sexually aroused. School spankings are another prominent part of this genre.

I was spanked for misbehavior when I was young. Not frequently, and even then only enough to get the point across and maybe elicit a few tears.

From a kink perspective as an adult, for me it's a complex interaction with childhood memories. You're right about the humiliation and shame as well as the submission. But there was embarrassment too. For one, the majority of times I was spanked was in my briefs which may have involved my pants being taken down. But also, the "sit spot" where spankings are targeted is an erogenous zone. So receiving a spanking can generate a lot of feelings at once which can be confusing and therefore also embarrassing to a kid, and depending on age and situation, an involuntary physical response may follow. So loss of control is also in play.

I guess it's worth noting that for me there were two very distinct kinds of spanking.

The first type was one or two quick swats of medium intensity delivered without fanfare. They were used as an interruption, to stop me when I was doing something that was dangerous or likely to cause injury that needed to be stopped immediately and without discussion. Usually a strong scolding would follow but that would be the end of it so the only thing that hurt after a few seconds was my pride.

The second type was more formal. This is where pants might come down and there would be several swats that would hurt and usually resulted in tears. This was when I'd done something really bad and was the worst punishment you could get in my book.

The second type is alot more common in the third world and asia.
