I texted my buddy David & asked the question about what if a girl forgot her swimsuit. His answer: She would just be excused from that class that day. It was a definite double standard requiring a forgetful boy to swim in his underpants.

In my school it was similar — they also had spare swimming trunks for boys who happened to forget theirs, although no one wanted to wear them and usually in such a case we'd pretend to be sick. I remember one time I noticed in the locker room that I had forgotten mine, and that day I really wanted to swim (I don't remember why). I was 15 then. I told the teacher that unfortunately I couldn't participate because I didn't have a swimsuit, and he said they had spare trunks and a moment later he brought me a pair and told me to change. I remember my surprise when I put them on — they were probably about three sizes too big, but I figured I'd just tie them tightly with the drawstring and it would be fine, I didn't want to make any more trouble. Of course, that only helped a little, and I already knew that next time I forgot mine, I'd pretend to be sick ^^

Yeah, I can imagine it being kind of nerve-wracking swimming laps with the constant worry of the too large swimsuit coming down.

What was the worst when you forgot your swim suit at a school a day of swimming lesson, to be proposed to wear a too big size or a too small size?
or of course to be told to swim without a swimsuit but I doubt that it could happen in a mixed school ?

as regards to skip the swimming lesson by telling that you were sick, it would have not worked at my boys only school because we might have a medical form filled by the school nurse and it was difficult to lie to her since one of her first instruction when you arrived at the nurse's office was to remove trouser and brief and lift the shirt and sit in all fours on a medical table to let her take rectally your temperature.

later after the bebinning of year, we have heard that it was a rule fixed the previous school year after talks between her and the Pe teacher to prevent boys students of lying about their possible sickness.

I have to admit, rectal temperature measurement in a school just seems impossible.

I also find it hard to believe that any school would measure temperature rectally, sorry.

As for the rest of the questions — if the swimsuit were just a little too small, then of course I'd prefer that option over one that keeps falling off me. But usually, if it's too small, you physically can't squeeze into it.
As for swimming without a swimsuit — cotton underwear at a swimming pool is an absolute no-go where I live in Europe to this day, and going completely naked probably wouldn't be acceptable either, even if there were no girls around.

Certainly not now, but some very sketchy things probably went on in private schools 60+ years ago. Normally, rectal temperature checks are only done on infants & small children.

A rectal temperature reading is actually more accurate technically as it measures core body temperature.
