Perspective.
Jonnie doesn’t have anything to show, so probably feels inadequate to Susan.
He *was in a position of authority, but now, he’s on the same level as the much younger Jamie.
Jonnie is clearly ashamed and il-equipped to handle things right now.
He’s proving his immaturity in more ways than one.
