I grew up in the southwestern U.S., but this brings back so many memories for me. I'm male. My father often opened my belt and pulled down my pants and underwear to spank me bare-bottomed. And when he thought I still needed more of a lesson (which was frequently), he'd make me stand in the corner for a while with my pants and underwear still down around my ankles.Dotka wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 6:31 pm Yes, children are still shamed in this way. Although some forms of punishment have become less common, I have a younger cousin—he’s about 10—who has two sisters. Whenever I visit them, I still encounter the same kinds of humiliating situations that I myself went through as a child—for instance, visiting my aunt and finding him standing naked in a corner. So, yes, it remains quite common, at least among boys—especially when this cousin is staying with my grandmother. My grandmother is someone who still believes this is the best way to raise a child, so she continues to use forms of punishment that are no longer widely practiced.
He made me stand some distance from the wall so that my bare penis was visible to anyone in the room, in addition to my naked bottom. He wouldn't let me use my hands to cover either, so that it was as humiliating as possible. My older sister thought it was hilarious and she would shriek with laughter.
I remember that Dad never stripped off my shirt, so I was never *completely* naked during these punishments...but somehow, having to stand there with my pants pulled down and my shirt still in place made me feel at least as humiliated as if I were in the altogether.
The worst part was when company came over, and they would see me standing there. I recall one old bat obviously enjoying the view and giggling at seeing me like that, and saying, "Well now, you mind your mom and dad, so they won't have to do this again..."
But I knew Dad would always find a reason to do it again.
