Now that you mention it, it's possible because the attack is coming from Brazil, Russia and the US (probably where the bot farms are), so maybe the DDoS protection assumes that you're a bot?
How.. the hell.. are there US bot farms? We have laws. Nobody's going there and shutting them down? What they're doing is just as illegal as what gets others shut down, if not significantly moreso. I assumed all of them were either completely concealing their location, or hiding in countries who have bigger things to worry about than that, like acquiring food.

Sadly, the existence of laws does not stop people from committing crimes.

What usually happens is a device gets taken over unknowingly, one that probably hasn't been updated for a long time for whatever reason, and has a known vulnerability. These devices then stay dormant, until someone pays whatever person or group took them over to use them in a DDOS attack. Make sure you're updating your devices, especially things that are internet facing like routers.

Actual warehouse-based bot farms linked to the Russian Mob on US, Russian, and Brazilian soil have been a multi-billion dollar industry for 10 years and counting. It'll go away and the people behind them will get arrested right around the same time that the seven-digit number of human trafficking slaves on US soil get rescued and their wealthy owners get arrested. Welcome to the modern era, where crime is money and enshitification runs rampant.

But yeah, the attacks originating from the three main hotbeds for Russian Mob activity is definitely not a coincidence. They love extorting smaller servers for protection money, it's been an effective racket for quite awhile. They're also behind most ransomware and other cyberattacks.

It's strange, the site has been completely fine and back to normal for me for the last few days.

Maybe because I'm in the UK? Would that make a differnce?

Yeah, probably. Most of the site was giving me 403 forbidden errors, including most pages of this thread, until I connected to a VPN outside of North America. I just got lucky to see computerphoto and Girlspns' messages about that.

Yep, VPN is the way to go here.
Also, check the box "Remember me" when logging in, this will keep you from getting logged out all the time.
I believe once the storm is over, admin will fix the issues one by one.
