After the article came out and it received a lot of attention, Devon spoiled the fun by explaining that they work modesty pouches, which are like socks.

From SuperTeen soon after the movie was released:

Devon: Oh, it was horrible! That was the first thing they told us when we signed on to the movie, that we'd be doing a nude scene. It was just embarrassing - there was nothing we could do about it. It wasn't like they sprung it on me, but it was probably the most embarrassing moment of my life.

In another article that I can't find now, he said that the mothers of the boy actors were all present and took pictures. I'm sure the modesty pouches in place, but I'm sure that was embarrassing anyway.

In video interview that I saw years ago, he explained having to wear little socks down there, and he said, "The socks didn't stay on very well. Just ask the girls!"

The girls were no there for the skinny dipping shot, but they were there when the guys ran from behind the tractor and chased the girls. I'm sure the girls had a great time!

This is another in a long list of movies that would be even better with a European remake.
If this was filmed in France or Germany the skinnydipping scene and subsequent chase would most likely be less shy about showing

Definitely! I remember seeing this clip on YouTube years ago, and the girls in the comments were telling similar anecdotes about how they always played this clip frame by frame when they were younger. It was so fun to read.
