It's such an interesting scene for what it says about Robert Zemeckis as a director, the way all the guys stare hungrily while all the women try to hold back the menfolk. He tones it down a bit in his later work but you can see the undercurrent in how he shoots his female leads going up to about the time he directs "Contact". There's a lot of objectification going on.

The fact that the camera guy is Squiggy from "Laverne & Shirley" -- which would have been the #1 TV show when this was in theaters -- makes the reaction shots that much more wild.
Cheryl Rixon plays a model in Kurt Russell's late-night car ad on live TV. When her dress gets caught in the car hood, Russell realizes he has a golden opportunity, and smugly suggests "Let's take a look under the hood, shall we?," before pressing the release to suddenly lift the hood of the car. Rixon's dress is instantly torn off, exposing her almost completely naked on live national television, aside from her very skimpy panties. She immediately starts shrieking and squirming in embarrassment, which Russell and his team completely ignore as the cameramen zoom in to make sure late-night viewers see absolutely everything
The Mom's reaction is so typical, try to prevent her son's from seeing anything related to a naked woman.
While some of these mom's would prevent any nudity both ways, many of them don't rush to change the channel if a naked boy were to appear on screen
